Math Penguin Craftivity

I know I've posted about math not being my favorite time of the day before. I totally blame our math program for its lack of hands-on activities. However, I've made it my goal to gather and create engaging activities to pump up our math hour. I promised to blog about those more often, so here it goes. =)

One of my favorites is this penguin craftivity. Students follow math directions to construct a penguin.  The skills used include congruent shapes, geometry, fractions, comparing numbers, and subtraction. The best part is seeing how unique each penguin is, even though students used the same directions. They also make for a cute hallway display each year.

I also want to shout out to Dots-N-Spots for her Knock It Off games. The multiplication one is a big hit in our room right now, but she recently made addition and subtraction ones too. How fun!

  4. SUCH a cute penguin. And thank you so much for your kind comments on my blog post the other day. Turns out a lot more of us have cried to our principals than I had previously thought! So good to hear that I'm not the only nutter!
